Pittsburgh Police: Man Arrested In 24-Hour Domestic Violence 'Crime Spree'

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A 23-year-old man was arrested in what Pittsburgh Police are calling a 24-hour violent crime spree.

Police say 23-year-old Devin Montgomery was arrested just before 5:15 a.m. Thursday on the 300 block of Birmingham Avenue in Carrick.

Montgomery is accused of a "string of attacks" on his family members and intimate partners, as well as several other crimes, in both Pittsburgh and Mt. Oliver.

He's facing 21 charges, including harassment, two counts of recklessly endangering another person, robbery, simple assault and resisting arrest.

Montgomery was wanted on three arrest warrants -- two in Pittsburgh and one in Mt. Oliver borough.

Police began searching for Montgomery on Oct. 14, when his girlfriend claimed he threatened her with a gun, then choked and slapped her as she was driving down East Carson Street, according to the criminal complaint.

Montgomery then ran off with his girlfriend's phone and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Early on Wednesday, Montgomery began a violent crime spree near five locations in and around Pittsburgh.

Police said he tried to enter a home in the 100 block of Margaret Street near Mount Oliver after midnight on Wednesday.

When the person who lived there wouldn't let him in, Montogmery allegedly smashed a front and back window before running away.

Minutes later, police spotted Montgomery near a Sunoco station on Brownsville road and he ran away when police approached him.

Montgomery struck again two hours later when he broke into his girlfriend's home, causing over $3,000 in damages to the home and her car.

He ran when the police arrived.

Montgomery then got into a physical confrontation with his ex-girlfriend's mother over $85 that Montgomery stole earlier in the week.

Montgomery pushed the woman against a door before getting away.

He was arrested around 5 a.m. on Thursday morning when police found him at his mother's home in the 300 block of Birmingham Avenue.

Officials also found a known stolen vehicle in front of the house and 3 ounces of Xanax.

Montgomery is scheduled for preliminary hearings on Nov. 19 and 20.

In a public safety report, police say: "The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police takes all incidences of domestic violence extremely seriously and would like to remind the public to report any such crimes."
