Pittsburgh Native Working Hard To Earn A Spot On Steelers Roster
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) – Miles Dieffenbach is living the dream of many Pittsburgh-area football fans as he battles for a chance to earn a spot on the Steelers roster at the rookie minicamp this weekend.
"They were my No. 1 team growing up," Dieffenbach said. "I was always cheering for them and always going to games."
The former Fox Chapel and Penn State guard signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent and he hopes his hard work and athleticism during camp will catch the attention of the coaching staff.
Dieffenbach is no stranger to hard work and the way he bounced back from a serious knee injury is proof of that.
After tearing his ACL at practice in March of 2014, the 6-foot-3, 303-pound lineman went through a grueling rehab regimen to ensure the fastest recovery possible. Dieffenbach missed the first eight games of his fifth-year senior season, but he took on a coaching role and helped from the sidelines until he was able to return to the field and finish his collegiate career with his teammates.
More than a year later, he said he feels better than ever and he's prepared to put in the work and go after his dream of playing in the NFL.
"Everything happens for a reason, it's not how you get there, it's what you do when you get there," Dieffenbach said. "So all I can do is be excited about the opportunity, work my butt off and win a job."
