Pittsburgh Named No. 1 City For Veterans Starting Out

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh has topped lists as one of the best places to live for several years – and it turns out it's no different for veterans.

Forbes magazine published a list of the best places for veterans "starting out" to live Tuesday, with Pittsburgh at the No. 1 spot.

Pittsburgh was actually chosen following a study by financial services company USAA.

The study notes Pittsburgh's many companies that put an emphasis on hiring vets, including Heinz, Alcoa, FedEx, PNC Bank and Wellpoint.

Those businesses paired with the city's growing metropolitan area and steadily affordable home prices help make it desirable for those who've served the country.

Other factors considered in the study were things like colleges and universities, of which Pittsburgh has many, GI Bill enrollment, job growth and health resources.

State College was also listed as No. 7
