Pittsburgh Detective, Adopted Sons Get Royal Treatment At Pens Game

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – It was a warm welcome to Consol Energy Center for the Mook family Thursday night.

Jack, a Pittsburgh Police detective, recently adopted 15-year-old Josh and 11-year-old Jesse.

They boys were living with foster parents who Jack describes as extremely abusive and neglectful.

Now, the newly-formed family is making good memories, and this special night with the Penguins is one to remember.

"We had no idea this was happening, we just thought we were going to the Penguin game," said Mook.

They weren't just invited to watch the Pens take on the LA Kings, they Pens rolled out the red carpet.

The family was escorted to a suite for some of the best seats in the house.

Plus, the boys had some one-on-one time with Iceburg.

"It's overwhelming," Jack Mook said. "I mean, where they came from, to this, they never had this. I had a good life growing up, they never experienced anything like this, so I can tell they are short for words."

Inside the suite were three personalized jerseys with the name Mook and the number 14 – representing the year Josh and Jesse joined a forever home.

"We'll probably frame these," Mook said. "This will probably be the last time we wear them. We'll probably get them framed and put up. My house is like a museum of boxing with old vintage boxing posters and now these hockey jerseys will go right in the middle of it."

"The jerseys are awesome, like, thank you," Josh Mook said. "Just want to say thanks so much, but the seats are really awesome."

It was a magical experience, especially for two boys who have been through so much.
