Bloomfield Streets Packed For Columbus Day Parade

BLOOMFIELD (KDKA) – On this weekend every year, you can count on one thing: the streets of Pittsburgh's Little Italy packed for one of the city's long-standing traditions.

Sure, it's a holiday named after that intrepid explorer from centuries past, but Pittsburgh's Columbus Day parade also celebrates those traditions that families enjoy today.

"It's a great day to get the kids out and be out here in the neighborhoods celebrating Columbus Day," said Jessica Setzler of Lawrenceville.

Those familiar Italian melodies filled the streets of Bloomfield.

"Well, it's Little Italy and I feel like I'm Italian every time I walk up Liberty Avenue," said Bill Garrard of Bloomfield.

There were also police officers and pageant queens. It's a must-attend event for so many participants and parade-goers. And there's always those first timers.

"I love it," said Morgan Yates of Bloomfield. "I'm really surprised how long it is and how many things there are. I kind of didn't know what to expect, but I really like it."

There's a lot of Italian pride at KDKA too. Our own Paul Martino, Kristine Sorensen, Marty Griffin and Christine D'Antonio were all there – celebrating a heritage and a language that's a true Pittsburgh tradition.
