Pittsburgh Celebrating National Transit Worker Appreciation Day

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Today is National Transit Worker Appreciation Day and if you're invited to join the celebration.

Pittsburghers for Public Transit will be handing out thank you cards and candy to riders to pass along to their bus and T operators. Maintenance workers are also included in today's show of appreciation.

The cards will be distributed between noon and 1 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Forbes and Bigelow in Oakland. They will also be distributed outside the Wood Street T Station between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

You can also print out your own cards here.

According to a press release from Pittsburghers for Public Transit, "We appreciate the opportunity to thank and honor the 2,000 public transit workers in Allegheny County who get riders to our destinations safely. These workers are out 365 days a year in rain, snow, ice, and frigid temperatures, as well as our hot summers."

At 7:30 a.m., the Duquesne Saxophone Quartet will perform in the Steel Plaza Station as part of the Bach in the Subways Series. More than 150 cities around the world participate in the event and this will mark the first time Pittsburgh has taken part.
