Pirates Sign Reliever Daniel Hudson

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - In need of pitching help, the Pirates have turned to the free agent market for another bullpen arm.

The team announced a 2-year, $11 million deal with right-handed reliever Daniel Hudson who spent the 2016 season with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The hard-throwing reliever appeared in 70 games last year, throwing 60.1 innings with a 5.22 ERA and five saves.

The highlights of the year for Hudson came over the final month when he saved three games with a 1.54 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 11.2 innings.

There is some talk that Hudson could compete for the Pirates closer role, but at the very least will add a right-handed pitcher to a bullpen that needs one.
