Pirates: Ryan Vogelsong Has Surgery To Repair Facial Fractures

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Pittsburgh Pirates say pitcher Ryan Vogelsong underwent surgery Thursday to repair injuries he sustained in a scary incident at PNC Park last week.

Vogelsong was hit in the head while at bat. He remained down near home plate for several minutes before being carted off the field.

According to the Pirates, Vogelsong had surgery today at Allegheny General Hospital to repair multiple facial fractures.

He is now back home and resting comfortably, the team says. He will be examined by team doctors next week, and an "appropriate rehab timeline will be outlined."
