Pirates Recall Phil Irwin, Send Jeff Locke Back To AAA

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - After his 5.1 innings of work last night in which he surrendered six earned runs on eight hits, the Pirates have announced they sent starter Jeff Locke back to AAA Indianapolis and called up reliever Phil Irwin.

Irwin made seven appearances (two starts) with Indy, beginning the season in the starting rotation before making his last five outings in relief.

He pitched 4.0 scoreless innings in his last game on May 1 at Pawtucket and was charged with one earned run in his last 9.1 innings of work.

The Pirates will look to avenge their blown lead last night against the San Francisco Giants tonight at 7:05 p.m. as they send Charlie Morton and his 4.21 ERA to the mound to take on Tim Hudson.
