Pirates Recall Cole, Sanchez & Activate Pimentel From DL

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Pirates made several roster moves on Monday.

First, the team recalled starting pitcher Gerrit Cole from rookie-level Bristol. Cole will start the first game of a pivotal series against the St. Louis Cardinals today.

Cole is 7-4 with a 3.65 ERA this season.

Catcher Tony Gonzalez was also recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis today. In 81 games with Indianapolis, Sanchez hit .235 with 11 home runs and 45 RBI.

The Pirates made two other moves today as well.

Stolmy Pimentel has been activated from the 15-day disabled list after a rehab assignment with Double-A Altoona.

Sunday night, the team, "selected the contract of right-handed pitcher John Holdzkom and optioned him to Indianapolis."

In order to make room for Holdzkom, the Pirates designated first baseman Chris McGuiness for assignment.
