Pirates Place Closer Jason Grilli On 15-Day Disabled List

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - After starting the year with three blown saves in seven opportunities and pitching his way to a 4.50 ERA, the Pirates have placed closer Jason Grilli on the 15-day disabled list.

The move is retro to April 21, and the team has recalled right-handed pitcher Jared Hughes from AAA Indianapolis to take his spot on the 25-man roster.  Hughes will be active for tonight's game.

Grilli is coming off a career best year in which he saved 33 games in 35 attempts with an ERA of 2.70.

The odds on favorite to replace Grilli in the closer's role is current setup man Mark Melancon.

Grilli joins Pirates starter Wandy Rodriguez on the disabled list as the team put him on the 15-day DL with right knee inflammation.
