Pirates Pitcher Mark Melancon Selected To All-Star Team

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Mark Melancon will join the National League All-Star Team for the 2016 All-Star Game in San Diego.

Major League Baseball made the announcement Tuesday. Melancon will join the All-Star team for the third time in four seasons as a Pittsburgh Pirate. His previous All-Star games were in 2013 and 2015. National League manager Terry Collins selected Melancon.

The Pirates say Melancon is the first Pirates closer to join the All-Star team two years in a row since Joel Hanrahan in 2011 and 2012.

Additionally, outfielder Starling Marte is one of the 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Final Vote participants. The winners will be announced Friday at 4 p.m.
