Pirates' Gerrit Cole Pops The Question To His College Girlfriend

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- There's good news for Pirates star pitcher Gerrit Cole.

He and his girlfriend have gotten engaged.

His new fiancée, Amy Crawford, took to Instagram this week to make the announcement and show off her engagement ring.

On Instagram she says:

"Just when I was sitting there, soaking in the week, thinking 'It doesn't get much better than this'... Gerrit was able to pull off a little surprise to top it off. The best things in life really do come in perfect time - Gerrit, you've made me the happiest girl in the world. Today, and every day that came before and every day that follows - I love you. Can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you by my side."

According to our news partners at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Cole and Crawford met at UCLA where she played softball. She is also the sister of San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford.

Earlier this week, Cole took part in the MLB All-Star Game in Cincinnati with fellow Pirates Andrew McCutchen, A.J. Burnett and Mark Melancon.

The Bucs will get back in action Friday when they take on the Milwaukee Brewers.
