Pirates DFA Wandy Rodriguez

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - After another disastrous start, the Pirates have designated for assignment starting pitcher Wandy Rodriguez.

Rodriguez was knocked around by the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night getting through only 1.2 inning pitched, 7 hits, 6 runs, 1 earned while walking 1 and recording zero strikeouts.

On the year now, Rodriguez has a 6.75 ERA and a record of 0-2.

With the release of Wandy, the Pirates have reinstated catcher Russell Martin from the 15-day disabled list and placed him on the MLB suspended list for tonight's game where he will serve his suspension from the team's bench clearing brawl with the Milwaukee Brewers earlier this season.

It is believed the Pirates will call-up starter Brandon Cumpton to take Rodriguez's place in the rotation.

The Pirates also announced today that they claimed right-handed pitcher Josh Wall off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Wall will be optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis. To make room for Wall on the 40-man roster, the Pirates have designated for assignment right-handed pitcher Phil Irwin.

Wall spent the majority of 2014 in AAA where he went 0-0 with one save and a 4.22 ERA in eight relief appearances.
