Pirates Bench Coach Jeff Banister Named Finalist For Texas Rangers Manager Position

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - A member of the Pirates organization for 29 years, bench coach Jeff Banister has been interviewing for open managerial positions this off-season and has reached the final three for the Texas Rangers' position.

According to Evan Grant of The Dallas News, the Rangers could announce their choice for their new manager by the end of the week.  

Banister will be competing with interim Rangers manager Tom Bogar and Cleveland Indians bullpen coach Kevin Cash.

Grant also writes that there is expected to be another round of more formal interviews over the next three days.

When it comes to Bansiter's qualifications for the position, Grant points out the valuable experience Banister has had the last four seasons while watching Clint Hurdle turn around the Pirates.
