Pirates' 2014 Top Draft Pick Recovering From Thumb Surgery

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Selected 24th overall in the first round of the 2014 MLB Draft, Pittsburgh Pirates short stop prospect Cole Tucker had surgery in October to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb.

As Michael Hurcomb of CBSSports.com writes, Tucker sustained the injury while playing in rookie-league ball last year in July. He only opted for the surgery after he re-aggravated the injury in the instructional league.

Tucker hit .267 with two triples, two home runs, six double, 13 RBI and three stolen bases in 48 games in the Gulf Coast League in his first professional season.

According to the Pirates, Tucker is expected to be ready for the start of the minor league season.
