Philly Port Inspectors Find New Stink Bug In Pineapples

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Inspectors have found a new pest in a shipment of pineapples at a Philadelphia port.

The rice stalk stink bug was uncovered at Penn Terminal in a 1,600 case, 50,000-pound shipment of pineapples from the Dominican Republic that were headed for Florida.

Customs and Border Patrol agents safeguarded the shipment and forwarded the specimen for testing.

Officials say the rice stalk stink bug is native to South American countries and was recently found in the Dominican Republic.

Officials say it is a threat to rice, soybeans, tomatoes and wheat.
