Philadelphia Developer Plans To Buy Downtown Macy's Building

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The historic Macy's building downtown could soon become apartments.

Our news partners at the Post-Gazette report that a Philadelphia developer plans to buy the Smithfield Street building, making it into apartments primarily.

The department store has been trying to sell the building for four years.

If the sale is completed, Macy's will be condensed into the first four floors.

Although the newspaper confirms Philadelphia's Core Realty has reached an agreement in the sale, Macy's officials and the building's real estate firm would not comment.

Stay with KDKA for more information.
