Pens Hire Gary Agnew As Assistant Coach, Re-Sign Megna

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Penguins hired an assistant coach and re-signed one of their young players Thursday.

According to the Penguins' official website, Gary Agnew has become the newest assistant coach with the team.

The 54-year-old Niagara Falls, Ontario native most recently served as an assistant coach with the St. Louis Blues for the past two years.

Prior to that, he was the assistant coach in Columbus from 2006-10 and the head coach of the AHL's Syracuse Crunch from 2000-06.

Agnew also has over 11 years of head coaching experience at the OHL level.

As for the roster he will help to coach, another piece re-signed today for another year.

Restricted free agent Jayson Megna is back in the fold for the upcoming 2014-15 season with a new one-year, two-way deal worth $874,125 at the NHL level.

The 24-year-old winger made his NHL debut on Oct. 25 against the New York Islanders. His first NHL points came in the form of a goal and an assist on Oct. 28 against the Carolina Hurricanes.

In 36 games, Megna recorded five goals and four assists.
