Pens Fans Calling For Change After Latest Playoff Failure

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh Penguins fans are feeling a range of emotions from shock to anger and defeat.

There was hope that home-ice advantage for such an important do-or-die Game 7 would help. In the end, the Pens could not match the Rangers' momentum.

Now, some are calling for some major changes.

"They just didn't play well. They're a bunch of stars and they played mediocre," Don Bender said.

"I don't know if they just took it for granted that they had all the skill. I don't know if they thought they would just come in and walk in and win. But, it seemed like the Rangers just had a little bit more motivation," Joe Schoppen said.

It was an edge-of-your-seat game, but the Pens fell short 2-1 in Game 7. Worse, they held a 3-1 lead in the series.

"I figured they'd come out on fire and show New York what they're all about and they didn't," one woman said.

"They didn't work hard enough. They got outworked in five of the games," Bender said. "I think they need to retool. Really, they need to make some changes up front."

Change is something that many are calling for after last night's loss and after five years without bringing the Stanley Cup home.

On "The Fan Morning Show," speculation swirled around head coach Dan Bylsma and General Manager Ray Shero and whether they could walk away from the loss with their jobs.

"Bylsma definitely has to go. I think Shero has done his best. I think they're lacking in on-ice leadership," one caller said.

"We get spoiled with all the success we have. And we just have this expectation we're going to win the Cup every year. It's a tough grind," Schoppen said.

While the extent of change is still unknown, fans are confident it's coming and only hope it means a stronger team come October.
