Pennsylvania Turnpike Ready For Holiday Traffic

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Pennsylvania Turnpike officials say the toll road could see record-breaking traffic over the Christmas and New Year's holiday.

More than 4.2 million vehicles are expected to travel the toll road from Thursday through New Year's Day.

Unseasonably warm weather and low gas prices are credited with helping to break a traffic record over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend when more than 3.34 million vehicles used the turnpike.

All construction and maintenance work have been suspended until Jan. 3.

Officials say the heaviest travel days will likely be between Dec. 28 and Dec. 30.
