Deadly Parkway North crash under investigation

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A pedestrian was hit and killed by a driver on the Parkway North overnight.

The crash happened on the inbound lanes of the I-279 between the Venture Street and East Street exits.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a deadly crash that took place along Interstate 279 in the City of Pittsburgh.  KDKA Photojournalist Brian Smithmyer

According to state police, just before 3 a.m. on Wednesday, the driver of an SUV traveling southbound in the center lane struck a pedestrian who was also in the center lane. 

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner identified him as 47-year-old Rodney Hall.

Police said the driver remained on the scene and fully cooperated. 

The road has since reopened.
