PennDOT Truck Overturns, Spilling Paint Into Creek

BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Three people were injured, one nearly drowned in paint, when a PennDOT line painting truck went off the road, overturned and ended up in a creek in Beaver County Thursday afternoon.

The crash happened around 1 p.m. along the 500-block of Grange Road in Brighton Township.

The crew was sent there to paint lines in the center of the road.

"We don't paint the edges on this road. It's too narrow. He actually was coming back when it happened. It's the narrowest part on the road though," said Beaver County Assistant Manager Jim Adkins.

Witnesses say the road gave way underneath the truck, sending it tumbling into the creek.

The truck flipped over on to its side, spilling paint.

One of the men sitting in the back was badly injured. He was flown by medical helicopter to a local hospital for treatment.

"Three guys, one of them was LifeFlighted out of here. One guy was in bad shape in the back of the paint truck. He was almost drowned in the paint. The guys on the truck revived him," said Adkins.

There's no word on his condition, but he's expected to be okay.

The other two men in the truck were hurt as well, but they are also expected to be fine.

A lot of paint from the truck spilled into the creek. The cleanup is expected to take quite a while.

"I'm not sure how far it made it, but we got guys coming up to clean it up now," Adkins said.

Crews have also brought in a large tow truck to pull the vehicle out of the creek.
