Penn Hills School District Business Manager Placed On Leave
PENN HILLS (KDKA) -- There's been another shake-up in the Penn Hills School District.
The long-time school district business manager has been placed on administrative leave.
Richard Liberto was escorted out of his office Tuesday by school security, and told to turn over his keys and phone.
No charges have been filed against Liberto, but sources say an internal investigation is underway into missing funds.
The Penn Hills School District has released this statement:
"The director of business affairs was placed on administrative leave with pay today as we begin an audit of current office practices. We will have no further comment until that review is completed."
Liberto told KDKA-TV News Tuesday night, "There are no missing funds, and I'm cooperating with the new audit." Liberto said the the problem is that the Penn Hills School District is broke, because of Charter schools and rising teacher pensions.
Liberto's departure comes after the January resignation of Penn Hills school superintendent Thomas Washington.
