Penguins To Open Season With 3-Game Homestand

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Penguins' regular season schedule for the 2016-17 campaign has been released.

As reported on Monday, the Penguins will open the season at home on Oct. 13 against the Washington Capitals. That will start a three-game homestand to begin the year. Anaheim and Colorado will be the other opponents during that stretch.

The Penguins will open their road schedule in Montreal on Oct. 18. But, they will return home on Oct. 20 for a Stanley Cup Final rematch against the San Jose Sharks.

Pittsburgh will cap a west coast swing by returning to the scene of their fourth Stanley Cup title on Nov. 5.

The first matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers will be on the road on Oct. 29.

Their longest road trip will be five games from March 8-15 that starts in Winnipeg and ends in Philadelphia.

Within the Metropolitan Division, the Penguins will play the Devils and Rangers five times each this year. They will face the other five division foes four times.

Their last home game will be on April 4 against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Meanwhile. the regular season will end with a three-game road trip against the Devils, Maple Leafs and Rangers.

Other highlights of the schedule include:

  • The Stadium Series contest against the Flyers at Heinz Field on Feb. 25.
  • A new "bye week" will happen from Jan. 1-7.
  • Fifteen back-to-back games
