Penguins Sign Gonchar To Tryout Contract

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) –The Pittsburgh Penguins are bringing back a familiar face for training camp.

According to the team's official website, defenseman Sergei Gonchar has signed a professional tryout contract.

The 41-year-old defenseman helped the Penguins win their third Stanley Cup in 2009.

During his five years in Pittsburgh, Gonchar racked up 54 goals and 205 assists. He also added seven goals and 37 assists in 60 playoff games.

Last year, Gonchar spent time with the Dallas Stars and Montreal Canadiens. In 48 games, he scored one goal and added 13 assists.

For his career, Gonchar has scored 220 goals and 811 points in 1,301 games.
