Penguins Plan 'Gold Rush' For Home Playoff Games

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- If you're planning on heading to a Penguins home playoff game, make sure you're wearing gold.

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced Monday that the team will be wearing their "Pittsburgh Gold" uniforms for all home playoff games, and they are urging fans to wear gold as well to create a "gold rush." Gold t-shirts and rally towels will also be handed out at all home playoff games.

Fans will also have the opportunity to have some fun outside the arena starting three hours before the games start. The Trib Total Media and Verizon gates will feature DJs and interactive activities and games. A Bud Light Party Plaza will be set up at the Trib Total Media gate, and a Miller Lite Party Plaza will be set up at the Verizon Gate. Meanwhile, the Peoples Gate will feature family-friendly activities for kids and face painters. There will also be a number of food trucks lined up on Centre Avenue.

The first playoff game will take place Wednesday, April 13 against the New York Rangers.

The Penguins took the ice Monday afternoon in preparation for the first-round series, and many fans were relieved to see injured goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury back on the ice.

"I thought he had a real good practice. He was sharp, tracking pucks well," said head coach Mike Sullivan.

Fleury says he's taking it one day at a time.

"It's one day at a time for now. That was my first practice; we'll see how it goes the next few days," he said.

Injured defenseman Olli Maatta was also on the ice during practice, too.

As for other injured Penguins, Sullivan says goaltender Matt Murray, and forwards Evgeni Malkin, Bryan Rust and Beau Bennett are all day to day with injuries.

The Penguins have also announced Monday that 1,200 tickets still remain for Wednesday's game. Tickets can be purchased online via TicketMaster or in person at TicketMaster locations, in person at the Dick's Sporting Goods Box Office at CONSOL or by calling 1-800-745-3000.
