Penguins Feeling Pressure Of Lofty Playoff Expectations

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - You could see it in the early moments of Game 1 with the Columbus Blue Jackets.  The Pens were tight and their play showed it.  The weight of fans expecting a deep Stanley Cup run every year is something the players are aware of, and they aren't afraid to admit it.

Scott Burnside of ESPN.com wrote about the pressure the Pens are under every year to win the Cup and how they handle it.  You can read in Burnside's article, where forwards James Neal and Craig Adams as well as defenseman Rob Scuderi each talk about how they personally deal with these expectations.  Each player has a unique way of looking at the playoffs and focusing on making a long run.

Despite the early jitters in Game 1, the Pens settled in and held their own against the Blue Jackets, even after surrendering a shorthanded goal and falling behind 3-1. The Pens' playoff experience showed as they composed themselves and scored three unanswered goals to open the series with a 1-0 lead.
