PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Penguins added a new defenseman Saturday.

According to the Penguins' Official Wesbite, Justin Schultz is headed to Pittsburgh in exchange for a 2016 third-round draft pick.

Schultz is in the final year of a contract that carries an average annual value of $3.9 million. The Oilers are retaining half of his salary. He will be a restricted free agent following this season.

The 6'2'', 193 pound player has appeared in 45 games with Edmonton this year, scoring three goals and 10 points in 45 contests.

Originally from Kelowna, British Columbia, Schultz was one of the NHL's top rookies during the '12-13 season, earning a spot on the NHL All-Rookie Team after scoring eight goals, 19 assists and 27 points while playing all 48 games.

Last summer, Schultz represented Canada at the World Championship, where he made four assists in eight games.
