"Patriotic Pups" Brings Veterans And Pit Bulls Together

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Western Pennsylvania Humane Society is launching programs to help veterans.

The Patriot Pups program trains vets to help specially-selected pit bulls become therapy dogs.

The vets also get job training and the chance to work with adoptable animals.

"I think it's very important that when our veterans come home that they are socialized and there are people that care for them and what's the best thing we can have as companions, but a dog?" said State Rep. Jake Wheatley.

Veterans can get a 25 percent discount on pet adoptions, vaccines, microchips and pet exams at the Humane Society.
