More Parkway West Work Will Cause Weekend Traffic Restrictions

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Another weekend of road work on the Parkway West, but it's not expected to be as bad for drivers as it was last weekend.

"We don't anticipate the issues we had last weekend where we had delays of up to three hours on the detour route," said Steve Cowan from PennDot.

Still a section of the Parkway West inbound is shut down entirely from Friday night at 9 p.m. until Sunday morning at 11 a.m.

That means all traffic will be forced off at the Green Tree exit and then detoured through the West End.

Going outbound, drivers are being forced off the Parkway in a small section to allow for work on a bridge. As you come up Green Tree Hill, all traffic will go into one lane and then you'll exit.

"They'll be police officers at key intersections," said Cowan,

"You'll then be directed to turn left onto Mansfield, then left again onto Poplar, before you go right to get back on the Parkway going outbound.

"But once you're back on the Parkway West, it's smooth sailing from there."

All of this weekend's work is supposed to be done by Sunday at 11 a.m. to make things easier for 40,000 fans expected to pack Heinz Field Sunday afternoon for a soccer match.

The U.S. World Cup winning team and Costa Rica will face off.
