Accident Closes Outbound Parkway East Near Squirrel Hill Tunnel

SQUIRREL HILL (KDKA) – An accident closed part of the Parkway East near the Squirrel Hill Tunnel Friday.

According to police, a tri-axle truck exited the tunnel and overturned around 10:15 a.m. As a result, it spilled gravel or sand onto the roadway.

The accident happened on the outbound side of the road at mile marker 76.5.

According to PennDOT, both outbound lanes were closed just east of the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) interchange. Traffic was detoured at the Squirrel Hill/Homestead (Exit 74) interchange.

Around 2 p.m. all lanes of mainline I-376 Parkway East reopened.  The on-ramp from Edgewood/Swissvale remained closed for clean-up.

Motorists are being advised to find alternate routes.
