11-Year-Old Boy Killed, 2 Others Hospitalized In Parkway East Crash

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The Parkway East outbound between Edgewood and Squirrel Hill is reopened to traffic after it was closed due to a multi-vehicle crash that left a little boy dead and multiple people hospitalized.

The crash occurred around 5:45 a.m. this morning and resulted in a shut down of the Parkway East and multiple people were transported to local hospitals.

According to police, a suspected vehicle malfunction caused a Ford Focus to stop in the left lane of traffic.

A Ford pick-up truck was in the right lane behind another vehicle. The truck changed lanes and rear-ended the disabled Focus.

Police say the driver and a passenger in the Focus were taken to the hospital for suspected minor injuries, while another passenger - an 11-year-old boy -- was killed.

The boy was identified as Jaiden Childs.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

Police say this is still an "active investigation."
