Inbound lanes of Parkway East reopen following deadly crash outside of Squirrel Hill Tunnel

One person killed in overnight Parkway East crash

The inbound lanes of the Parkway East have reopened following a deadly crash that happened just outside of the Squirrel Hill Tunnel.

Pennsylvania State Police say that the crash happened in the inbound lanes of the highway just before 2 a.m. when the driver of a Corvette slammed into the back of a a Honda Civic while traffic had come to a stop due to a temporary closure of the tunnel. 

Troopers say the Civic was pushed into two other vehicles and four vehicles were involved in the crash in total.

The driver of the Civic, identified as Landon Ray, was taken to the hospital, where he later died, State Police said.

Other drivers involved in the crash were treated by medical staff at the scene, State Police said.

The roadway was shut down for several hours and reopened just before 5:45 a.m. 

The crash is under investigation from the Pennsylvania State Police's Collision Analysis, Reconstruction Specialist, and Forensic Service Units.
