Pa. Hitman Apologizes For Shooting Wrong Victim, Testifies

WINDBER, Pa. (AP) - A Pennsylvania man has apologized for mistakenly shooting the mother of his intended victim and testified against the woman he says hired him to do the shooting.

Twenty-two-year-old Cortland Michalides testified Wednesday after first waiving his right to a preliminary hearing on attempting homicide in the March 20 shooting of Theresa McDonald.

McDonald's son, Codi, was the intended target. Michalides testified that his girlfriend, Heather Singer, hired him to kill Codi McDonald - who was her ex-boyfriend - but that he mistaken shot the target's mother when he entered their dark Windber home about 2 a.m.

Singer's attorney denies she was a part of the plot, but a district judge ordered her to stand trial along with Michalides.
