P.J. Stock On Doan/Letang: Perception Of Hits Has Changed Over Time
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – SportsNet NHL analyst and "Hockey Night In Canada" personality P.J. Stock joined "The Fan Morning Show" Tuesday to offer his thoughts on the Pens, with the playoffs only a couple weeks away.
Stock discussed Shane Doan's hit on Kris Letang, which led to Letang falling and suffering a concussion.
Stock thinks that hits like Doan's are scrutinized much more nowadays than they used to be.
"The problem with the game today is that we look at every hit, every hit from whichever side now," Stock said. "It used to be part of the game. Now, it's almost, every time there is a hit, you're looking for the penalty."
Stock said that a change in styles has made hits like Doan's more dicey.
"You just knew you were going to get hit at all times," Stock said. "I think the game is a little bit different today... there's not as much hitting in the game, and I think players kind of relax at times a little bit more on the ice than they used to because there's not enough hitting. You used to get hit every time you touched the puck. You knew there was a chance you were going to get hit."
