Overnight Storms Activate Flood Gates

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The recent storms were severe enough to activate the flood gates on Washington Boulevard Sunday.

They were lowered at the intersection between Negley Run and Allegheny River boulevards.

A sensor automatically closes the gates when the water level reaches a certain height.

They were installed after flash flooding killed four people back in 2011.

Washington Boulevard was reopened as of Sunday night.

Meteorologist Kristin Emery says to expect some more scattered showers throughout Sunday night.

Labor Day will also have chances of showers and thunderstorms.
