1 person rushed to hospital after shooting in Arnold

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — One person was rushed to the hospital after a shooting in Arnold on Friday.

A family member of the victim told KDKA-TV that the 43-year-old was shot five times and is in grave condition.

Police said one person was taken into custody shortly after the shooting, which happened just before 3 a.m. on Leishman Avenue and Rankin Street.

"I saw the yellow tape. I knew what it was," said Michelle Prince, who lives nearby.

Some residents that live in the area said they woke up to the sounds of gunshots and flashing lights outside their windows.

"It's sad for the community," Prince said.

Some told KDKA-TV that things have taken a turn for the worse over the years and the area has become more violent.

"Every once in a while, yes, there is a shooting. Maybe not exactly in this place right here but over the course of New Kensington-Arnold, yes, a lot of shootings that you hear about within weeks," a custodian who works at Arnold United Methodist Church said.

The man said he takes extra precautions while at work to stay safe.

"I come into the church at 6, 6:30 every morning. I do what I need to do, but I got to the point that I always make sure the doors are locked behind me. Do what I need to do and leave again and make sure everything is locked up," he said.

Police have not identified the victim involved. So far, no charges have been filed.
