Olive Garden In Hempfield Township Closed After Fire

HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP (KDKA)- Flames ripped through part of an Olive Garden in Westmoreland County.

The fire started around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Olive Garden on Route 30 in Hempfield Township.

Fire officials say the fire started in the kitchen. When they arrived, they could see smoke in the back of the building. It quickly spread to the dining room.

The sprinkler system inside the restaurant put out most of the flames by the time firefighters arrived.

There is extensive damage to the kitchen. The dining room also has smoke and water damage. The front door glass was broken out either for firefighters to get in or for ventilation.

The Olive Garden on Route 30 will be closed today.

The Olive Garden released this statement:
"We are very thankful that no one was inside the building at the time of the fire and no one was injured. We also would like to thank the first responders for containing the fire to the kitchen area and fortunately, the dining room was not affected by the fire. We will be closed today but do not have any timeline on re-opening at this point. We are working with the local authorities on assessing the damage and origin of the fire, and will share the timetable of re-opening as soon as we know."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
