Officer Injured After Being Rear-Ended On Route 51

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police say a Zone 6 officer was injured when his car was rear-ended on Route 51 overnight.

The officer was stopped at the Route 51 and Crane Avenue Intersection conducting a traffic stop, with the cruiser's lights activated.

While stopped, authorities say the officer's car was rear-ended.

The officer was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital, but has since been released.

Police are trying to determine if alcohol played a part in the crash.
