North Park, South Park Ice Skating Rinks Opening For Winter Season

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Is there a surer sign winter is on the way here in Pittsburgh?

A pair of popular ice rinks will open for the season on Friday, Nov. 13.

The Allegheny County Parks Department says both the North Park and South Park rinks will open Friday evening with sessions from 4:30 p.m. till 7 p.m. and 7:30 till 10 p.m.

The skating season runs through mid-March.

Meanwhile, in Downtown Pittsburgh, the ice rink at PPG Place will open next Friday, Nov. 20, just in time for Light Up Night.

This year's rink is going to be about 25 percent larger than the one used during every holiday season since 2001.

There will be room for about 350 skaters, that's 100 more than before.
