North Allegheny Football Team Surprises Manager For 18th Birthday

WEXFORD (KDKA) – They may not be much when it comes to carrying a tune, but 28 North Allegheny football seniors sure know how to throw a surprise birthday party.

"For me, it's been a real pleasure the past few years," said North Allegheny football manager Deven Michel.

The birthday boy, Michel, is 18-years-old.

"Great to be a part of something like this," said senior Aren Cox. "I mean, we all love Deven and Deven all loves us, you know. We are a family."

"Deven means everything to us," said senior Jon Sumpter. "When he comes to practice, when we just see his face, his smile, it just brings joy to our team."

Deven can't play football. He has cerebral palsy and a heart surgery means he has to stay on the sidelines. But that doesn't mean he's not part of the team.

"They've done everything," said Pat Michel, Deven's mother, "They've given him a jacket, given him a jersey. It's just been phenomenal."

And Deven's father agrees.

"They treated him great," he said. "I mean, he couldn't have had a better experience for his four years in high school – plus the state championship when he was a sophomore, so it was a very special time."

And Friday night the Tigers start the WPIAL post-season party against Upper St. Clair.

"We are hoping that they can go a little bit further in the playoffs and really cap off a great high school experience," Michel's father said.
