Court Orders Mt. Lebanon To End Archery Hunt In Park

MT. LEBANON, Pa. (AP) - A judge has ordered the western Pennsylvania municipality of Mount Lebanon to end its controlled archery hunt in a local park.

An Allegheny County judge on Monday granted a request from neighboring Scott Township to stop Mount Lebanon's contractor from shooting deer in Twin Hills Park as part of an effort to reduce collisions between deer and vehicles.

The judge ordered Mount Lebanon to immediately put up posters making it clear that hunting is prohibited in the park, which is located within the boundaries of Scott Township.

Officials say Scott Township granted Mount Lebanon a conditional use permit for the 25-acre park in 1994 that was limited to recreational uses. Mount Lebanon manager Steve Feller has said that the municipality doesn't need Scott Township's permission to hunt.
