Newsradio 1020 KDKA Editorial: State Budget Resolution

Democratic Governor Tom Wolf and the Republican-controlled legislature have finally approved both a budget and a revenue package to pay for it.

It's about two weeks late but a far cry from last year, when the bickering lasted for months and caused real hardship around the state. By the time that impasse ended, it was clear: Pennsylvanians were angry with the governor and even more angry with the legislature.

2016 has been a very different year. After a long private / public / bipartisan lobbying effort, Shell decided to build its cracker plant in Beaver County. Then, surrounded by Republican and Democratic lawmakers, Governor Wolf announced a special legislative session to deal with Pennsylvania's opioid crisis.

Finally, there was the budget resolution.

Perhaps our elected leaders have learned that cooperation and collaboration are more effective in moving Pennsylvania forward and improving the lives of its residents.
