New Wilmington Boy Undergoes Tests After Being Stuck With Hypodermic Needle

NEW CASTLE (KDKA) -- A New Wilmington boy was treated at a hospital in Lawrence County after being stuck with a hypodermic needle at a local ball field.

An 8-year-old by was serving as the batboy for his brothers' team when he found the needle near the dugout.

It happened last week at the field at Dean Park along Taylor Street in New Castle.

The boy was treated at Jameson Hospital and his blood tests came back negative. However, he will undergo more tests in three to six months.

"I told him to drop it and I startled him and he tried putting the cap back on and he pricked himself," said the boy's father Billy Ray Moore. "And he's like, 'I just pricked myself,' and I'm like, 'No!'"

Moore said the incident has left him outrages.

"My heart -- I mean, I didn't even sleep for the last three nights, I'm just so mad," he said.

After the incident, parents did a sweep of the field and found a second needle in the same park.

Police are investigating.
