'This Is Not The New Kensington I Grew Up In, Folks': Neighbors Scared After Shots Fired At Undercover Officers

NEW KENSINGTON (KDKA) -- Investigators are searching for the person who fired shots at an undercover officer.

KDKA talked to people in New Kensington who say they're terrified.

They keep their doors locked and some even have cameras on their houses. And with last night's shooting, KDKA was told something needs to be done.

"This is not the New Kensington that I grew up in folks," said Jill Jacob, who is from the area.

Jill Jacob is familiar with Kenneth Avenue and Walnut Street. It's where her daughter lives as well as her grandkids, who she watches often.

It's also where shots were fired at police officers Tuesday night, creating a very active scene with multiple police departments responding to the scene.

New Kensington Police were on patrol and believe they saw someone wanted for another incident.

A vehicle that was being used by an undercover officer approached the person and that's when shots were fired. No one was hit and police did not exchange gunfire.

Investigators say that individual was able to getaway.

This prompted nearby Westmoreland County Community College to be put on lockdown.

Students going to their night classes were escorted to their vehicles and allowed to leave.

"The spray bullets, the shootings. It's scary. I'm scared for my grandchildren, I'm scared for the neighbors," said Jacob.

A white van full of bullet holes and shattered windows was later towed from the scene.

Pennsylvania State Police say they're not even sure the person they saw was the person they originally thought.

At this time, police have made no arrests.
