Neal Huntington Show: Walker Locked In At The Plate

PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- Pittsburgh Pirates General Manager Neal Huntington joined Greg Brown Sunday for his weekly show on The Fan.

Neil Walker has been seeing the ball well as of late going 5-for-8 in this series including a game-winning two RBI double in last night's win.

"He's got a nice, easy, compact swing right now. He's not trying to do too much. He's using the whole field. He's laying off pitcher's pitches. He's hitting his pitch, and as importantly, he's not chasing very much out of the zone. So, he's locked in and swinging the bat very well right now," Huntington said.

Huntington spoke about the Pirates' continued use of Sabermetrics as well.

"It is always a balance of subjective and objective. What do we see with our eyes? What are our coaches seeing? What are our scouts seeing, and does it align? And if it doesn't align, try to identify why it doesn't align," Huntington said.

At the end of the day, Huntinton notes, "We want to see better outcomes from our starters."

Huntington wraps up the show by giving an update on Wandy Rodriguez and when we could see Jeff Locke.
