National Weather Service: No Evidence Of Tornado In Butler Co.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) - After conflicting reports, the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has told KDKA they "did not find any evidence of the funnel reaching the ground" this weekend in Butler County.

There was an Associated Press report earlier in the day of a tornado touching down near Slippery Rock during Saturday's storms. But the National Weather Service says there were "no confirmed tornadoes Saturday night."

A Tornado Warning was issued Saturday evening for Armstrong, Butler, Clarion and Venango counties.

They say, "Information can be re-visited if we receive reports of damage in a remote area that is inaccessible by car."

However, the NWS in State College does say that a tornado did touch down about 6:30 p.m. Saturday near Scandia, a village in Warren County, about 65 miles southeast of Erie. The small tornado was on the ground for about two miles and its path was about 40 yards wide.

The National Weather Service categorized it as EF1, with winds between 100 and 110 mph.

There was no major damage associated with either tornado.
