Munhall Boy Found Safe After Going Missing

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- An 8-year-old boy - described as both autistic and non-verbal - was found safe this afternoon.

He was reported missing after he disappeared from his Ravine Street home.

Munhall Police Chief Pat Campbell said one of his officers saw the boy walking in ankle-deep water in a creek about a half-mile from his home.

As many as 60 firefighters, police and volunteers - and a canine officer from McKeesport - were involved in the brief search, after the boy's dad reported him missing around 2 p.m.

The boy was found just after 2:30 p.m., after a firefighter noticed a small footprint near the creek.

Chief Campbell expressed relief explaining that in another few minutes, the child could have disappeared in an underground tunnel.

The boy got out of the house by placing a chair beneath a window and climbing out.
