Mt. Lebanon Parents On Alert After Man Allegedly Attempts To Lure Girl

MOUNT LEBANON (KDKA) -- Parents are on high alert in Mount Lebanon after a man in an SUV approached a small child playing in her front yard over the weekend.

The attempted luring happened in broad daylight around 1 p.m. Saturday on St. Clair Drive. Now, parents say they're nervous.

"This is not something that happens in this kind of neighborhood," parent Ediri Montoya said.

Authorities say a young girl was playing in her front yard when a white SUV pulled up in front of her home.

The child told police the driver, a man, lowered his window down and told her he had something for her in his vehicle. He reportedly asked the child to get into the SUV, but she ran into her house.

"I'm just worried for my kids, and I had to sit them down and just have a conversation with them about safety," Montoya said.

Montoya's three kids walk to school every day.

"I basically told them they have to stay together," Montoya said.

Other parents say the police are doing a great job notifying parents of the incident and feel comfortable their children will be okay.

"I don't think anyone here is too worried about the situation. We're a real strong community and are going to leave it up to the Mt. Lebanon Police to take care of this," said one parent who didn't want to be identified.

The child's teenage brother was home and saw the vehicle from the second floor. He was able to help police with a description.

"The distinct feature we are looking for that makes it so remarkable is that rear tire carrier that has a gray cover. Gray or dark black with a yellow line that looks like a crescent moon," Lt. Duane Fisher, with Mount Lebanon Police, said.

The driver is described as a white male in his mid- to late-50s with a receding hairline or partially bald. He was wearing a neon green or yellow collared shirt.

The vehicle was described as a mid- or full-size white SUV. The SUV took off after the girl ran inside and was last seen making a right turn onto Washington Road.

If you have any information or see the whereabouts of this man, you're being asked to call Mount Lebanon Police or 911.
